IT Rains Manchester (this photo was taken by: © Maria M G Franken)
This is my view of the typical Manchester weather. The shot was taken on a rainy morning through the back window of a city bus. I felt the shot really summed up my mood that morning. I was kind of in a daze about my day and the only thing I was really thinking about was the rain. It just seemed to put a damper on everything and was the only thing I could really focus on. For the shot, I chose a shallow depth of field to put the world into a soft focus and the focused on the window and the rain drops beading on the class. There isn't a strong clear focal point to the work but the curving form in the background brings an end to the diagonals of the road receding back into space. The overall impression is pretty dreary which was my mood that day. I think I could have moved around the back of the bus a little. I could have played around by shooting from the left and right sides through the window, which would have made the road lead "into" the image, instead of from the middle. I think it would have created a much stronger image. I also could have tried to put the background image (the arch of the bridge) in either the left or right top quadrants instead of the middle for a stronger composition.
